Kuala Lumpur, March 8 – The opening ceremony of the first inaugural Czech Film Festival 2017 in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia was officially launched tonight by the Deputy Minister, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation YB Datuk Wira Dr. Abu Bakar Bin Mohamad Diah. In his officiating remarks, he has acknowledged the importance of this film festival in strengthening bilateral ties and cultural understanding between Malaysia and Czech Republic. He was later joined by the Czech Republic Ambassador H.E. Rudolf Hykl and Director General of National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) Dato’ Fauzi Ayob to watch the opening film, Dark Blues World (2001) by the Academy award winning director of Kolya, Jan Svěrák, about the Czech pilots who fought for the British Royal Air Force (RAF) during the Second World War.

Beginning from March 9 – 12, 2017, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Malaysia in collaboration with FINAS will showcase five award winning films ‘Dark Blue World’, ‘Oldies but Goldies’ , ‘A Vote for the King of The Romans’ as well as the Jan Sverak’s 69th Oscar Best Foreign Language film, ‘Kolya’ and Oscar nominated ‘Elementary School’, at the Golden Screen Cinemas at Pavilion KL, Mid Valley and 1Utama. Thus, all cinema goers are cordially invited to embrace and celebrate the powerful visual storytelling and filmmaking presented by these five beautiful movies
