Tan Seng Kiat’s award winning film, ‘Shuttle Life’ and Quek Shio Chuan’s debut feature film, Guang have been officially selected to represent Malaysia and vying for Best ASEAN Film Award at 4th Bangkok ASEAN Film Festival held from July 4-8 at SF World Cinema in Bangkok, Thailand. Organised in conjunction with 51st anniversary of the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN by the Thailand’s Culture Ministry of Culture in partnership with the National Federation of Motion Pictures and Contents Association as well as celebrating the cinematic excellence of 10 selected feature films from Indonesia, The Philippines, Malaysia, Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand, the Best ASEAN Film winner will take home a trophy and $10,000 while the film awarded Jury Prize will be rewarded a trophy and $5,000.

Winning 8 international awards in 2017, ‘Shuttle Life’ about the struggle of a young man who supports his family and emotionally challenged with tragedy and conflict has given Seng Kiat international spotlight with his official nomination as Best New Director at the 54th Taipei Golden Horse Awards last year. It has also received notable accolades including Best Film, Best Actor (Jack Tan) and Best Cinematographer in the Asian New Talent portion of the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) as well as Best Actor, Best Cinematography and Best Production Design at 12th Chinese Young Generation Film Forum Awards in Wuhan, China and Best Actor at 2017 ASEAN China Film Festival in Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, local award winning director Quek Shio Chuan’s debut feature film, ‘Guang’ adapted from his acclaimed short film about the emotional journey of an autistic young man who has a hidden talent in music was recently shortlisted for four awards at the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival and will be competiting for the audience award at Japan’s Fukuoka International Film Festival 2018.
